Detection of potential spots of active corrosion processes caused by unfavorable natural factors

The Engineering-Technical Center of 'Gazprom Transgaz Ekaterinburg' found out that defects of main gas pipelines are highly concentrated on small sites within river paleovalleys with unstable sediments such as sand or turfy grounds.
The georadar helped detect the pipeline sections passing over the paleochannels of rivers and the thalwegs. The ultrasound diagnostics carried out after the georadar survey revealed high concentration of inner corrosion defects in pipelines passing over paleochannels and thalwegs.
