Karsts Detection at early development stages Scale assessment
Karst structures not yet manifest in soil sagging
The georadar section shows, in the soil under the road surface, a cone-shaped structure typical of vertical development of underwashing. The suffusion shakehole passes through a dolomite mass (5 - 20 m) and is visible down to 50 m deep. As a rule, that is what initial karst development stages look like.
Surface horizon (2-12 m): filled soil. At this horizon local zones of high humidity are registered;
Surface soil sagging zone;
Surface ground waters vertical movement zone (the suffusion shakehole, karst);
The horizon of homogeneous monolith dolomite;
The horizon of fractured dolomite or destroyed down to chippings, debris, or rock-flour;
High humidity soil zone
